In post-war Italy, a working-class man's bicycle is stolen, endangering his efforts to find work. He and his son set out to find it.

Details

In the post-World War II economy of Italy, a desperate and unemployed man named Ricci finally lands a job hanging up posters. However, the job requires a bicycle, and when his bike gets stolen, Ricci's world comes crashing down. Determined to secure a future for himself and his son, he embarks on a search through the streets of Rome to recover his stolen bicycle.

As Ricci and his son roam the city, their journey becomes a desperate quest for their only means of survival. With little hope of finding the thief, Ricci's situation becomes even more dire when he learns that without a bike, he will lose his job.

Although Ricci manages to find the thief, he lacks the necessary proof to take legal action. Faced with the reality that his chances of reclaiming his bike are slim, and with his livelihood on the line, Ricci is forced to abandon his cause. But he and his son know that their future hangs in the balance, and without a bike, Ricci stands to lose everything.

Bicycle Thieves, a powerful and moving film, explores themes of desperation, survival, and the lengths a father will go to provide for his family. Directed by Vittorio De Sica, this classic Italian neorealist film is a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
