Just when things can't any worse and he can't make rent, his nonchalant mother extends a helping hand. She offers him a place to live and In-mo is glad to take her upon it. Boomerang Family (2013) tells the story of In-mo, an unsuccessful film director who is struggling in life. He is unemployed and abandoned by his wife, with nothing going right for him. Just when things seem to be at their worst and In-mo is about to become homeless, his nonchalant mother offers him a place to live.

In-mo accepts his mother's offer and moves in with her. He soon discovers that his older brother, Han-mo, a former gangster and repeat convict, is already living there as a jobless couch potato. To make matters more chaotic, their twice-divorced sister, Mi-yeon, and her rebellious preteen daughter, Min-gyeong, also move in with them.

As the grown-up siblings navigate their complicated relationships, they are forced to confront their own personal issues and past mistakes. Through their bickering, bonding, and unexpected moments of tenderness, they start to learn how to support and rely on each other.
