Details

Lemon (2017) is an unconventional dark comedy that explores the unraveling life of our protagonist, Isaac, after his girlfriend of 10 years unexpectedly leaves him. As Isaac struggles to piece his life back together, the movie takes us on a bizarre and absurd journey through his increasingly strange and awkward encounters.

Throughout the film, we witness Isaac grappling with his personal and professional failures. His acting career is stagnating, and he finds himself teaching a commercial acting class where he's constantly undermined by his students. Isaac's relationship with his family is also strained, with his deaf and aging father particularly difficult to communicate with.

As the story unfolds, we are introduced to an array of eccentric characters that Isaac encounters. From his strange and intrusive blind fling, Ramona, to his alcoholic and aggressively flirtatious co-worker Alex, each interaction further deepens Isaac's feelings of confusion, frustration, and loneliness.

Lemon is a masterful portrayal of a man slowly losing control over his own life. Through its sharp and witty dialogue, often peppered with uncomfortable silences, the film explores themes of identity, love, and failure. Director Janicza Bravo's unique visual style and the superb performances from the ensemble cast make Lemon a truly engaging and thought-provoking cinematic experience.

Deftly blending humor and pathos, Lemon is a must-watch film that challenges traditional narrative conventions and delves into the complexities of human relationships and the frailty of the human condition.
