Moon (2009) follows the story of Sam Bell, the lone employee stationed at a lunar base owned by Lunar Industries. Sam's main task is to extract supplies of helium-3, a clean and abundant fuel, from the moon and send it back to Earth. With no direct communication to Earth, Sam's only companion is an intelligent computer called GERTY.

As the end of his three-year contract approaches, Sam starts experiencing hallucinations and longs to be reunited with his wife Tess and their daughter Eve. However, when an accident leaves him unconscious, Sam wakes up to find himself in the base's infirmary, with GERTY informing him that a rescue team called Eliza will soon arrive.
