Details
Travis Bickle, a lonely ex-Marine and Vietnam War veteran, works as a taxi driver in New York City to combat his insomnia. During the day, he frequents seedy cinemas to watch adult films and contemplates the state of the world, which he believes has deteriorated into a cesspool. Travis has strong opinions about humanity, but he sees a glimmer of hope in Betsy, a worker for Senator Charles Palantine's presidential campaign, whom he becomes infatuated with.
A shocking incident involving Betsy drives Travis to believe that he must take matters into his own hands and make the world a better place, according to his own judgment. His top priority becomes saving Iris, a twelve-year-old runaway and prostitute trapped under the control of her pimp and lover, Matthew.
