Summary:
The Machinist is a psychological thriller directed by Brad Anderson. The story revolves around Trevor Reznik, a machinist who has been afflicted with a severe case of insomnia lasting over a year. As a result, his body has deteriorated, and he has become skin and bones. Trevor copes with his condition by writing reminder notes and keeping track of his weight, which he scribbles on yellow stickies in his apartment. He has formed a close emotional relationship with Stevie, a prostitute, but secretly holds an infatuation for Maria, a single mother who works at an airport diner.
Trevor's disheveled and gaunt appearance has caused his co-workers to distrust and distance themselves from him. A workplace accident further isolates him, and when he discovers unfamiliar papers in his apartment, Trevor becomes convinced that someone, possibly one of his colleagues, is plotting against him, using a fictitious employee named Ivan as a front.
Driven by paranoia, Trevor embarks on a quest to uncover evidence of Ivan's schemes and whereabouts. Along the way, he begins to unravel the true cause of his insomnia, leading him to a harrowing realization.
