Details
In the early 1970s, during the height of the Cold War, the head of British Intelligence resigns after a disastrous operation in Budapest. It is revealed that the head, known as Control, believed that one of four high-ranking officials in the service was a Russian agent, also known as a mole. The operation in Hungary was an attempt to uncover the true identity of the mole.
George Smiley, a retired intelligence officer, is brought back into action by a senior government figure who wants him to investigate a story from a rogue agent named Ricky Tarr, who claims there is indeed a mole. Smiley believes that the failure of the Hungary operation and the continued success of a Soviet intelligence program, codenamed Operation Witchcraft, supports the claim of a mole within their ranks.
Smiley delves into the world of espionage, using his astute skills and connections to gather information and uncover the true identity of the mole. As he digs deeper, Smiley discovers the dark secrets of the intelligence community and the lengths some will go to protect their own interests.
