The obnoxious, cynical and sarcastic web designer Owen lives with his girlfriend Isabelle. When Isabelle discloses that she is pregnant, she asks Owen to make up with his only family composed by his estranged grandmother Violet and Pearl. Trash Fire (2016) is a dark and gripping psychological horror film that follows the story of Owen, a cynical and sarcastic web designer, who lives with his girlfriend Isabelle. Owen has been plagued by guilt ever since a fire he caused killed his parents and left his sister Pearl disfigured. To cope with his guilt, Owen regularly visits his psychiatrist, Florence.

When Isabelle reveals that she is pregnant, she urges Owen to make amends with his estranged grandmother Violet and Pearl, the only family he has left. Despite warning Isabelle about Violet's malevolence, they decide to travel to Owen's hometown.

Upon arrival, they quickly discover that Violet is a despicable and cruel woman who has imprisoned Pearl. Isabelle finally realizes that Owen had been telling the truth about Violet all along, but their plan to leave is derailed when they decide to stay a little longer due to Pearl's fragile state.
