In The Reaping (2007), Katherine Winter is a former Christian missionary turned debunker of religious phenomena. She is approached by a teacher, Doug, who asks for her help in investigating strange events plaguing his small town of Haven, Louisiana. The town seems to be suffering from the ten biblical plagues, which lends the situation an eerie and ominous atmosphere.
Reluctantly, Katherine agrees to go to Haven and investigate the unusual occurrences. She is accompanied by her colleague, Ben, and together they begin to unravel the mysteries surrounding the town. They encounter a skeptical child, Loren, who seems to have knowledge of the plagues and may hold the key to solving the haunting puzzle.
